Default Solaris 10 Operating System

I am attempting for the first time to install the Sun Solaris 10 Operating System on one of my computers.

I have a new HDD (unformated) installed.

I obtained the DVDs from SUN in the mail.

The DVD is the first boot drive.
I placed the first DVD disk into the drive and rebooted.

The monitor displays
"Boot from CD/DVD :"
"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

I am a little confused. The DVD says "11/06 Solaris 10 Operating System DVD".

Does anyone have any experience with installing Solaris on a PC?
I could sure use your expertise. What am I missing?

Does Windows have to be installed in order to install Solaris?
That doesn't make any sense.

Gandalf I could be or I am proberly wrong but is your DVD drive master or slave?

DVD drive needs to be master via jumpers were required.

CMOS Setup Utility says,
HDD - IDE Channel 0 Slave
DVD - IDE Channel 4 Master

does that sound correct?

Default Re: Solaris 10 Operating System

Thanks for the link.

I had a store in the states install the new HDD.
My mistake.

I opened the chassis and found the HDD signal cable wasn't connected.
Upon connecting the cable, the BIOS reads,
HDD - IDE Channel 0 Master
DVD - IDE Channel 4 Slave

As for the HDD, it's still new. That is to say I did have Windows installed on it.
The HDD should be as it came out of the box.
I assumed installing Solaris would provide for partitioning and formatting just as Windows does.
However, since the Solaris CD won't boot I don't know what it's status is as far as partitioning and formatting goes.

Gandalf you would have to create a partition and mark it as active just like a dual boot if I am correct?

So the hard drive was not connected correctly?Maybe try a reinstall again now it is connected?
