Default Ubuntu and Debian in one hd.

I have recently installed Xubuntu 7.10 on the hard disk. I am quite satisfied with it; however, I would like to try something new. Even though Ubuntu is Debian-based, I would like to install Debian as a second OS. As far as I can understand, during the Debian installation, I do not have to install loader because Grub has already been there. I would appreciate if someone could suggest me how I can do that.

Default Re: Ubuntu and Debian in one hd.

First, back up your files from Xubuntu. Repartitioning an existing partition can sometimes cause file deletion or corruption, so you'll want a back-up.

From the Debian installation screen, where it asks you to format the drive for installation, select the Xubuntu partition and reduce it in size by however much you see fit. Then select that as the place to install Debian. Swap space from Xubuntu's installation should be interchangeable between the two (so you probably won't have to make more for Debian).

Good luck!
