My mail mac keeps freezing and will not let me force quit it why is this?

I have mac osx

I transferred all my files from my laptop through firewire to my new imac is this what has affected my mail ???

I'm not very savvy with Macs or MacOS but we have a pretty stellar tech team and I'm sure that some here have more experience with them.

I'm not sure of the reason it's doing this, check software update to see if there are any updates (it may not show up as a mail.app update as it is part of the os, just make sure you have installed all the updates that its showing) if you're not sure open terminal ( /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app ) and do sudo softwareupdate -i -a

I will say this though, mail.app is, in my opinion, utter rubbish, I recommend downloading and using thunderbird as a replacement.

Transfering files to the mac SHOULD NOT affect the running of any of your programs.
