Question [Answered] Chmod question

Hi,

A friend and I set up a CS server on his linux computer, and it works fine. I have an FTP account and I can login via VNC, the server works too but the problem is I can't write anything to the ftp folder because it is chmodded as drwxr-xr-x. We've tried at least 15 different chmods over and over but it doesnt seem to work, what i need is the directory gameserver and ALL the subdirs and subfiles to be chmodded rwxrwxrwx. HOW do i do that? My friend has root access of course.

Well, there's an interesting article here: Permissions problems even when permissions are set to rwxrwxrwx

" Certain Discus functions return an error message indicating a condition of "Permission denied" (some examples are: File Locking Error, Could not write main topics file, and conditions within Program Diagnostics). However, the FTP program shows that permissions on affected files and/or directories have been set to rwxrwxrwx as instructed."

Well I checked with my FTP program and the main folder is in fact set to rwxrwxrwx but all the subfolders aren't, so the above link doesnt cover the problem... also, i used the -R switch, which is for including subdirs, right?

"The only standard method by which Windows permissions can be set is to log in at the console, select files and/or directories, and set permissions through Windows Explorer"

Huh? the FTP server is linux? What the problem is is that I cant get all the files and folders to be rwxrwxrwx, only the top folder. The subdirs dont change, even when I use -R.
