It's worth a try Zanc. I would have been very suprised if that HDD was still working. As with all moving parts, HDD's will fail eventually, and the average life of a HDD is normally between 4-6 years. Due to the constant advances in technology, it can sometimes be hard to find components a 3 years old, let alone 20. I can promise you they don't make these anymore. You may be lucky to catch somebody selling one on e-bay. Also, the older systems don't normally have BIOS as standard. If you don't then you would probably need to get an exact replacement, otherwise it will not be detected.
