Hey.
I appreciate all your help with my linux problems but i reverted to ubuntu yesterday. I prefer things to be simple and to me fedora is anything but that.

In ubuntu i`ve managed to install all the things i couldnt on fedora and it was a lot simpler.

Linux for humans indeed. :-)

Only thing is Gaim keeps breaking, any idea why that is?

I had the same problem in fedora but when i updated it it worked fine. The update in ubuntu just gave me a message telling me it was already up to date. aMSN looks ugly :-(

ubuntu is simpler than fedora?

i guess i'll have to download it.I never tried it i might try to dual boot fedora and ubuntu

as for your gaim breaking i have no idea what would cause that i will take a look around and see if i can find anything to help you out

i found this quick guide to install the beta version of gaim alot of people say that they stopped having problems after they installed the beta version

If working with a fresh install, begin with step 1 below. All others probably can skip step 1.

This not only installs the caching-nameserver, but it also installs bind-libs and bind as dependencies. This seems to resolve the conflict, and no fix is required. However, the bind-utils package is not installed.
Step 5: yum install bind-utils

I had exactly the same problem on my AMD64 Pressario CompaQ 1550NX and solved it succesfully as well.

Simultaneously I have got rid of another problem I had before when using find:
find: WARNING: Hard link count is wrong for ./selinux: this may be a bug in your filesystem driver. Automatically turning on find's -noleaf option. Earlier results may have failed to include directories that should have been searched.

But with the new kernel the ntfs became unvisible

. That is because corresponding rpms kernel-module-ntfs-2.6.15***rr.10.5.x86_64.rpm from www.linux-ntfs.org - Linux-NTFS RPMs Downloads - Fedora 5 have to be reinstalled for a the new kernel kernel-module-ntfs-2.6.18***rr.10.5.x86_64.rpm. Looks like autfs does not work automatically in this case. So I put back ntfs manually again.

I`ve given up on gaim purely because i hate the way linux doesnt do everything fo r you.
I tried to install the beta version but was told i need to install a parser for something. I dont like the idea of having to install things just so i can install something else, seems silly. aMSN will have to do for me.

My latest issue with Ubuntu is that i can only have resolutions up to 1024x768.
Im not sure why and last time i installed ubuntu i had it on 1280x1024 or whatever it is
Stupid ubuntu
any ideas?

So far all the possible solutions look very long and complex for a linux n00b. Hoping for a quick fix if possible.

sorry for the late reply

i just did some googling around and the most informative site i found said that if you are running the basic driver that comes with ubuntu you can only have a resolution of 1024x768 if you want a hiher resolution you'll have to install the latest driver for your monitor

Hi again. I sorted my res out. It was so simple i didnt expect it. Inside the xorg.conf file (i think) is a bit of text including the command to run to change some resolution settings.
