Hello ddcpeter and welcome to PCHF,

If you could click on the cell you want to change, then flick format then cells ... Click on the number tab and have a play around to see if you can get it to change to numerical.

Here's how to do it. If your time is more than 24 hours be sure to use the 2nd formula and in the cell that shows the results format it as general. You can find this in Excel help by searching on "Add Times".

Hours worked

A1 1:35
A2 8:30
A3 3:00
A4 4:15
A5 8:00

FormulaDescription (Result)=SUM(A2:A5)Total hours worked when the total is less than a day (17:20)

=SUM(A2:A6)*24Total hours worked when the total is greater than a day (25.33333).

In your case to convert a single cell if the cell to be converted is A1 then in the result cell (assuming it is A2) use this formula:

=SUM(A1)*24 - Be sure to format cell A2 as General

Notes
  • To view the second formula as a number, select the cell and click Cells on the Format menu. Click the Number tab, and then click General in the Category box.
  • If the time you are adding contain seconds, format the cell with time format that displays seconds. Select the cell and click Cells on the Format menu. Click the Number tab, and then click Time in the Category box.
