Default .xls linking

Hey guys, me again.

So I was thinking about the solution I was trying to build, and access didn't seem like the right fit, now I have come up with something that would actually be simple and perfect IF it were possible, thats where you guys come in, lol.

Would it be possible for me to keep info in a .xls file as a database, then in another xls file, have a sort of form that can look into another excel file for information. e.g. I have a .xls with all my sales guys in it, and then in the form .xls I can have a drop down with a lookup of those guys.

Would something like that be possible? please say yes lol.

Yes I know the most simple way of doing it would be to program something small myself, but I have very basic experience and haven't done anything like that in over a year.

Hi M3mPh1z,

A pivot table in Excel based on the original form would do exactly what you want.

You just select the sales person and it would display the information for that person.

Please see the links below for how to use pivot tables.

Thanks DIIRE, that seems to be what I was looking for, I cant yet see a way to actually use a drop down to navigate between records but I am still busy reading through those tutorials.

With the drop down list it gives me, it allows me to select multiple records, but I will only need it to select single records, is there a way to change it to a normal single select type drop down? just for ease of use

I'm not actually sure without seeing the pivot table.

Generally though if the records all have a unique reference you could put this with your other drop down field and would be able to view specific records. Sorry that's so vague but without seeing the table and knowing exactly what you do, it's a little difficult.
