Default Sage Instant Payroll

Hi I don't know if any one can help me here, I posted on the Sage forum but haven't had any help there, so thought I would see if anyone here can help, as you've helped me in the past.

I was finishing the payroll year end in Sage instant payroll today and I got as far as the P 35 bit and then it said "A critical update is needed before you can continue" then it prompted me to download it. Which I did, but when it came to installing it, the screen froze and it wouldn't download properly. I rang them helpline and was in a queue for over 30 minutes!

They said it was some problem to do with Vista, (which my pc is) I don't think the update is designed for Vista! they said its HMRC's problem and not theirs. Then he told me to download it again and store in another place and see if that worked (which it didn't) screen still froze up.

I can't complete my year end at the mo, because of this, can anyone help. thanks.

Hi Misty2008,

Do you have another pc with xp on it that you can migrate the Sage data to, so you can close off the year?

I'm not that familiar with Instant Payroll but I know you can do that with Micropay and Meridian. Perhaps call Sage back and ask them if that is an option.

Hello Diire, yes this is what I was thinking as a last resort.

I have a pc at home with XP on it, but it would mean installing sage payroll on to that computer and then also getting all the info from pc at work onto home pc so that it has all the payroll data.

I don't really want to use up my free time doing this, and I won't be getting paid for it. All because someone didn't design the update properly in the first place! I know its going to take me a day or so to sort out. It shouldn't be like this.

If anyone else can suggest anything that would save me having to do this, I would be most gratefull.

If you have the Sage Maintenance package you will have their latest update disk. All this does is talk you through the End of Year Procedures and rollover to 2009/2010.

So restore to your latest good data, enter all data for the last period for 2009 whether monthly or weekly. Backup.

In the reports section you'll find all you need to do the year end.

Thereafter with the Sage disc, if appropriate, you may need to install a fresh copy of Sage and re-enter the employees details etc.

Personally, a year ago, we went here:

::: Payroo.com - Free Online UK Payroll Software :::

Free, Inland revenue approved, and (12 employees) submitted on-line today with prints and backups of all those P14's, P60's etc

(That's not an advert)

If Elpmek's suggestion doesn't work and closing off the end of payroll year is important to the company, they will pay you to do it.

If they decided to get PC's running Vista for payroll when Vista wasn't compatible then they are going to have to pay you to fix it or buy another with XP on it.
