When I try to open Excel (2002) from the start menu, I get a box that says "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office XP Small Business", then it tells me I need to insert the CD. When I hit cancel it says Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. If I hit OK (without putting in the CD) it says it's looking for SBERET.msi. Apparently this is the microsoft installer for small business edition retail.
The disk is at another office. I can get it, but my research found that many others have put in the CD and it wasn't there either.
I am able to go directly to program files/microsoft office 10/ excel.exe. It gives me the same error message, but if I hit cancel a few times I can still open and use excel just fine.
I've had this program running on my laptop for a few years, and I don't know why it would be trying to install office now. I used Google to try to find a place to download the file, but no luck.
By the way this is a legal licensed copy of office. I just don't want to drive to another office to get the CD to install a program that I already have.
Is there a way to repair this without the cd?
