Default universal spreadsheet formats!

Is there any way of making an Excel worksheet so it can be used with MS Works ? as I use Excel and most of my friends use Works.
Or is there a universal format that can be read by All/Most Spreadsheet programs? I'm thinking similar to saving as .rtf in Word

Hi driver_ian,

You can open Excel files in Microsoft Works, however you can't just double click them. Please Microsoft link below for instructions to give your friends so they can open the files in Works.

Another option would be to get your friends to use OpenOffice which is free software similar to Microsoft Office which is able to open all Microsoft Office file formats.
