I have this feeling I have done something wrong that is obvious, but I can't figure it out!!! I have Office Home and Student (Vista); in Word 2007, I would like to use the "Citations and Bibliography" ribbon in the "References" tab. However, all options except for "Insert Citation" are "greyed-out", so I can't do anything, such as "Manage Sources" or select a style. In the Style box (still greyed out) it says "missing." I checked the install DVD, and I think I installed everything, so why doesn't it work?

As a student, this is an important feature I need figure out very soon.

Sorry for the delay in answering. Please let us know if you have since fixed this problem.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2007.

Also if the document was originally written with a different version of Microsoft word have you tried converting it.

I am having this same problem...Office diagnostics found no problems. I haven't tried a reinstall, anyone know of any solution before I try that? Thanks!

I have Word 2007 & the bits to which you refer work fine so:

Confirm the installation is validated (& not one of those trial period items)

Imortantly download all the relevant Office updates from the Microsoft site directly:

Try converting the document. It needs to be in docx format for the citations and bibliography to work.

To convert it Click Orb up top left > select Convert

Following Diire's thoughts, if you start with a new document are those fields still greyed out?

It isn't a trial, I've had it installed for a year and a half...just haven't had to do a research paper so I haven't paid attention to the citation feature. I don't know when, or if, it was ever enabled. I originally was trying with a blank document, starting by adding all my sources, which obviously didn't work. Then I tried different formats (.doc, .rtf) as well as different documents I created on a computer with a working citation feature. Still nothing work. I think I will simply try a reinstall.
