Default Reinstall Office 97 problem

I had to reinstall my operating system and reinstall Office 97 on my computer. Installing was easy. However, when I try to start any of the programs, a message box pops up looking for the install disk in the CD drive.

What am I missing?

Hey Artlayton,

Have you actually put the installation CD into the drive, and let the installation complete?

Yes, I put the CD in the drive; opened the drive and clicked on setup. It ran through the installation of all the programs on the CD.

When I open the Office directory and click on "winword.exe" I get a message stating "this application must be installed to run. Please run setup from the location where you originally installed the application."

I can run Word, Excel, etc if I put the installation CD in the drive. And I don't remember clicking the block to run from CD.

That is the message I get, but I have installed Office 97 and run W2K. I think I will uninstall and start all over again.

Thanks for the advice.

Here is what I did to fix the problem. First I manually deleted every file on my hard drive in the Microsoft Office directory. Not all can be deleted manually. I couldn't use "add or remove software" in the control panel because I had reinstalled W2K and wiped the registry. Then I ran the installation CD again for Microsoft Office. Used it to delete the earlier, non-woring version. Then I restarted computer and reinstalled Microsoft Office. Everything worked fine after that.
