Default Excel edit cell

EXCEL 2003.

Often times when I double-click in a cell to edit the cell's contents, I accidentally double-click on the cell's upper or lower line instead of inside the cell.

When this happens, EXCEL moves the selected row from where I am to either the first row or the last row in the spreadsheet. And then I have to go to the trouble of moving back to the the cell I wanted to edit.

Is there a way to disable this EXCEL behavior to keep it from moving from the first/last row in the spreadsheet?

What is this "feature" called?

Thanks.

Steve

Default Re: Excel edit cell

To disable this feature Click Tools > Options > Select the Edit tab > Remove the tick from Allow cell drag and drop - it's actually a time saving feature so you can navigate quickly around spreadsheets with large volumes of data in them and also move data quickly to a new column, etc..

Another way you can avoid skipping to the end of the range - try clicking the cell once and editing the cells contents in the formula bar instead of double clicking.
