Default [Answered] open 2007 in 2000 or 2003

I am using MS office 2007 Student and Home edition...it seems that when I send a document to someone as an attatchment that uses office 2000 or 2003 they can not open it...
I am a real novice and have looked on Microsoft site and can not find an answer I understand...has something to do with .docx ?
Is there a way to solve this problem so they can open my docs?
Thank you;
hefs

There's nothing to feel stupid about! Everyone has to start something new, and no one can ever fully master anything
