The response to OPEN, SAVE in Word is instant immediately after starting the programme but after say, an hor or two in operation, the same commands get progressively slower, taking up to 10 seconds to take effect. Anyone know what my problem is?

Hello handicap14, welcome to PCHF.

I've never known Word alone to cause this problem, nor do I even believe it's possible. Word will either work, or it won't. Have you tried the same operation with any other software? Also, when this problem occurs, go to My Computer on your desktop and see if it takes the same amount of time to bring this window up.
