Question [Answered] Help, UnInstall MS Office XP Pro (2002 ver).

Hey guys im having some trouble Uninstalling MS Office XP Pro 2002.
I first tried to un install it in Add\Remove, without success as it gave me a msg saying that I need a file that is located on a network location or something, and that the installation path is inaccessible. I have been googling around and im not sure but someone posted somwhere that it could be something to do with the win.ini file... and that you change it to win.old and try again..

Well i havnt tried that yet, but i did try to do a manual uninstall where you delete all the MS Office XP files from the Program Files directory, and then locate all the registry keys and delete them aswell.

The whole point of that is so i can completely remove everything MS Office XP 2002 and related and then install the new MS Office 2007. Of course i have backed up all the files required to restore any emails and settings for Outlook .. so now I am stuck. Because I have not completed the manaul uninstall process, maybe i missed a few reg keys or didnt delete all the files in a certain dir...

can somebody plz explain how to do a complete manual uninstall of MS Office XP Pro 2002 ..

THX heaps...

looking foward to any replies...

(inserting the office XP CD does not give me any menus, it come up with same error msg, which i will post in detail asap..)

Hi TheUsedeR, welcome to PCHF!

Do you still have the Office 2002 CD? All the files you need to uninstall Office 2002 are all on that CD. Since the files and registry keys have been deleted, you will most likely need to install and then uninstall again.

However, I've had two versions of office installed on PC's before now and not had any problems. It's obviously a good idea to keep them in seperate directories. What error message do you get when you try to install Office XP?

Yeh i have both the office XP 2002 pro cd's still, and i did try to install it and then uninstall it, that didnt work because i was unable to reinstall it from the cd again to start with, (ill have to get that error msg, or a screen shot asap.. ) i couldnt reinstall it because it came up with the same error msg saying i need a file or cab. file that isnt there... in about five hours i can provide full details on the msg i get and what it says, as i am fixing a problem for a friend... and i have to wait for my friend to wake up again, b4 i can get him to reproduce the error msg for me... oh yeah i also get it when i launch outlook 2007... as i have already installed office 2007 but it still gives me errors when launching outlook 07 or if i try to re-install office xp (in order to uninstall it properly as i have done it a dodgey way by deleting files and reg keys. which hasnt been done properly or else i wouldnt be getting anny msg's associated with the old office XP 2002.

Yep exact error would be good. But if after pointing that particular .cab file doesn't work, then it's likely that it wasn't the original .cab file used in the first place. Microsoft release so many versions of the same product, I've even been caught so many times when it asks for a certain Microsoft Office cab file, and won't it because it's not from the same CD used to install, even if they are both 2002.
