Default Double line space on hitting 'return'

Hello all,

Sorry, I know this is a really silly problem, but there's no easy way of typing it into Office Assistant to seek a solution. Basically when I hit the 'return' key, the cursor moves down two lines instead of one. I can only move one line down if I hold shift + return. I can't find an option anywhere that will revert it back to one line.

Any ideas? It's probably blindingly obvious...

Adam

1. Open a new Word document.
2. Click the arrow on the right side of the Paragraph box under the toolbar.
3. In the Paragraph dialogue box that appears, make any style choices you want, including setting the line spacing to single.
4. Click the Default button at the bottom of the dialogue box.
5. Click Yes in the box that appears.

Hey,

Thank you for your reply. I managed to get to stage 5, but then I lost track of instructions. It says " To amend the go to Format : Styles & Formatting," Firstly to amend the what? And secondly, where is the 'format' menu? The only tabs I have are Home, Insert, Page Layout, Mailings, References, Review and View.

You then say "To ensure the line spacing becomes the default, go to Tools : Options : Save tab then tick the Prompt To Save Normal Template option." Again, there is no Tools and Options menu. I went into Word Options which is on the main menu (accessed by pressing the Office button) and there is no tick box saying "Prompt to save normal template"

I think this is for an older version of Office as the tabs you mention aren't on this version. Thank you for your help though. Any further suggestions?
