Default Unable to open Documents Folder

My hard drive has been slowing down and making noises, I figured it was going to crash. I had several folders in Documents and Settings. After the drive wouldn't boot, I hooked it up as a slave and can open all folders except one. It is not different than any of the others When I try to access it, I get a message that the drive needs to be formatted. I tried doing a search for files in that folder and came up with nothing. I tried to access it from a command prompt and could see all the other folders, but when I tried that directory, it could not find the source. I tried to do a chkdsk and it found a Data Error (cyclic redundancy check). I have heard of CRC, and as I understand it there is not much that can be done about it. It would not repair it. Why would it just affect that one folder and nothing else. These hard drives are running Windows XP Pro on the master(new one) and Windows XP Home on the slave(old one). Is there any saving the data in that folder?

Hi Rosebud, welcome to the PCHF.

If you're getting a CRC error, it means the folder you're trying to access is most likely located ontop of a bad sector, and is irretrivable.

I've never successfully recovered data from a CRC error.
