I bought a used computer that is running 98SE and i am trying to load Office 2000 on it as I am 99% sure I did it before with this installation disk on same OS but I am getting message "Windows installer preparing to install" and then I get "The installation package could not be opened" is there anything I can do or should I copy in from one hard drive to another or will this even work?

Any input would be greatly appreciated !

Copying from one hdd to another will not work.

It sounds like the Windows Installer has corrupt...maybe?

Try a SFC
Start -> Run -> sfc
you'll need the win98se cd.

Are you loading oofice from a bootable CD? if yes then there is a likelyhhod that it is corrupted.

predator, office is not windows.

office is word/excel/project/access/outlook
it will not be a bootable CD...

Big problem then as I dont have the 98se cd....I am at a standstill or is there anything I may be able to try.

The problem is kcd123 that even though 98 appears to run ok, the file structure may be corrupted hence the inability to run Installer.
Without the 98 disk to repair the file system you will have problems.
