Default Slow to load through My Doc's folder

The issue:
When I go to load a Word or Excel doc from the my documents folder on the desk top it hangs for about 10 to 30 seconds before loading. Other files within my docs load instantly. If I open word or excel first (Loads in an instant) and access from with in Word or Excel ( though file ,open mydocs, ) it loads instantly. If I open word or excel first and go through the my doc folder on desk top it still loads slowly.

What I tried: I first noticed this after I did a system restore. Redid that a few times from various media that I have my backups on to no avail. Decided I wanted a fresh start anyway so I did a clean install of XP, Than MS office pro, Restored my docs folder. Success!! All docs loaded lickety split. Loaded Kapersskys Internet security,AOL, System Mechanic6, acronis disk director, and True image. Still loads fast. I week goes by no issues. I load quick books, Music match, Microsoft digital image suite and the slow issue reappeared. I can’t say there lays the problem because I didn’t immediately go into my docs to see after loading them. I have uninstalled those last 3 but the slowness is still there. I tried windows restore point to a date I know all was well (Prior to any programs except XP and office) still the slow load.

Thanks for your help.

Reply from (Experts Exchange) lead me to this fix FYI.

Good call, it got me going in the right direction. After doing some reading on what you said it all pointed to a registry issue ( deletes , installs ect..)
I have system mechanic 6 and ran their registry tool before I began this tread with out any improvement. Your comment convinced me on the registry issue so I installed" Advanced System Optimizer "http://www.systweak.com/asov2/ ran the registry tool and I’m back in business.

Thanks again for all your suggestions and for the follow up
