Default Get word version from file

Hi,

I need to work on a document for somebody, but I don't know in which version of Word it was made. I need to make sure there is no way anything can go wrong with the compatibility or something so I need to install exactly the same word version as the file was made on. Is there a way to see in which version of word the file was made?

What version of Word do you have? If it's XP (Office 10) then you should be fine, it's completely backwards compatible with older versions. You will be able to open it (make a copy straight away) then save it in any format.

I have Office XP, but if the file was made in a lower version and I save it again won't any formatting/hyperlinks/whatever be lost or unreadable?

No because in XP you can select to "save as" any previous Word version.
