Question [Answered] Excel Being Weird

i have a task I do every day that requirews me to open a worksheet in excel(2003). this morning i go to open it and it tells me i already have a spreadsheet with this name open. it tells me to either close one of them or rename one. The funny thing is i dont even have any other worksheets open. I tried restarting my computer but that didnt help. I did rename the document so i could do my work......but thats not going to satisfy me. I need to know how to correct this.......... Its just a pet peave . so before i do this............ can someone please help? Thanks in advance!

Never heard of this problem but its possible that there is a file under the same named saved in your TEMP folder, so try and clear your TEMP directory and see if it helps.

Also now that you have changed the name of the document, when you go to save it choose "Save as" and give it the same name as the spreadsheet which was saying it was already open. See if it will save or whether it tells you it is already open.

Hey Guys and Gals,

I realize that this is an old thread, but there is an explanation, I have had this same thing happen with Word documents that were opened constantly. The original file became corrupt, when the file was copied and renamed, the problem ceased. It appears to be a corruption of the Office file.

If however, you are having similar problems with an Office file that is not corrected using the suggestions in this thread, please start your own thread in the Office Software Forum, and one of our techs would be happy to help you resolve your situation.

Look forward to seeing you in the forums,

TTFN
