Hello,
I am trying to run an SSH server on one of the hosts on my network. I've set up copSSH on that host. When I use putty to connect directly to that computer, it works.
My network is behind a DSL connection. So I have a DSL modem (Proline), which has a public IP, and a private 192.168.0.0 address behind it. It is hardwired into a Netgear WPN824 wireless router, which has one interface on the 192.168.0.0 network, and all of the hosts on a 10.0.0.0 network.
The next step was to set up port forwarding on the router. When I try to SSH to the 192.168.0.0 address on the router, I get a connection to the host. Yes!
Next I went to set up port forwarding on the modem. I set it up to forward TCP port 22 to TCP 22 on the router. When I go to any of the online sites to test my ports, I see that port 22 is open. However, when I try to connect in with putty, I get a "Network error: Connection Refused".
How do I trouble shoot this? Am I missing a setting on the router? Is is possibly an error because I am coming from inside the network trying to access the outside IP (I can't see why this would be a problem)? There is nothing between the two devices... I'm stumped.
Thanks in advance.

You cant test if ports are open from inside the network on 99% of routers it just wont work. Are you testing udp or tcip? test from a website is a bit hit and miss as it must get an answer from the port to confirm it works if there is nothing answering it may say its faulty.
Download portforward this can test port from inside your network |

Thank you samuria. That makes sense.
I was able to get on a neighbor's wireless, and I am able to get it to run from there, so it looks like that is working! Thanks! Sorry for not replying sooner. I thought I would get an email when someone replied! |
