ok ,is there an antenna type symbol there that is controlling the wireless?

just from memory there the f2 button has the antenna icon.but we used that yesterday to get the wireless up.does it have other functions?

no the f2 button wont do anything but turn on and off the wireless , when you turn the wireless on does anything in the start bar turn green or change colour to signify it has been turned on , ? what im trying to assertain is whether windows is running the wireless or wether there is a 3rd party program managing your wireless connection

not that i know of but i havnt been paying attentio for it though either.i will check it when i get home tonight and bring it with me to work again tomorrow.i will probably be here for about another 2-3 hrs but i will probably be busy since its a friday night.what happened was the computer went blank so my wife put the operating disk into the computer and ran it.when sdhe did she erased everything from the computer.all my microsoft word.excel,musicetc....maybe the signal isnt strong enough.

oh no , sorry to hear that , i hope you can recover your data somehow.
you say you had signal 4/5 that is more than enough to get a good connection, maybe you could ask another apartment tennant that has connection if there is any keys or passphrases that are needed to access , or any requirements for it , i will catch up with you tomorrow and hopefully get this sorted
