so this is my first post so id just like to say a big hello to every one and hope to get to know some of you better as i use this site

now my brother is the one with this problem with his network that ive spent hours on trying to fix hes living with mum and dad still and the house has cable internet and we are trying to get it to network throgh a 8 port hub we had it working once but after he upgraded mobo cpu gpu and every thing else it wont give him an ip address we thought it maybe the new hardware but its not because dad just upgraded and now he cant get on the net ether because the old ip address is on the other hard drive and it wont give him a new one also rang the internet provider aka telstra fat load of good that was please help realy need to fix this

Are any pc working on the network? If they are can you do a ipconfig /all from a working pc and a none working pc and post the results. Depending on the O/S its start run type cmd and then type the ipconfig /all in the box

May be there is Ip conflict if you have set default Ip address before.
You can install a mac scanner on your computer and scan in your network.I found one and have used before, you can try it.

so i rang big pond help line and they said its because of the modem as it only has one ether net out put witch we had running to a hub and then to both of the pc's they said the modem can only get one ip because of the one port that didnt sound right to me but they said with out a doubt that it would fix the problem so fingers crossed
