Default Connecting seperate internet connections

Here is my problem.

I am running Server 2003 as a domain controller and also have a program loaded on it that external internet users will need access to. This all worked fine with cable and DSL, I used the router to port forward to the IP of the server.

I am now in a place that doesnt offer Cable internet, I tried DSL and they can't seem to keep the connection constant it keep dropping off thoughout the day. So I switched to Clear Wimax. Clear will not allow me to forward the port thru its modem which has a built in router so the Internet IP remains on it instead of my router. The DSL would work good enough to support the internet users access to the software as they are only on for short periods of time and not that often, but isnt good enough to support our use of the internal use of the internet.

I have two nics in this server and am willing to keep both ISP if I can make this work. Can I run the DSL through one router and into nic2 for only access to this software and keep nic1 going through a different router for access to the Domain Controller and all our other internal needs?

Hello maf49 and Welcome to the Forum!

Knowing what systems you are trying to run this all on would help us..

Routers information will certainly help.. Here is one option, but I have a few in mind to help you along with this as I'm not the networking guru, hm?

I'll make this open to encourage all to come and take a look and let those that know about this.

Thanks for your patience

The server is running Win 2003 Server. I have one linksys wireless router that is being used for all the internal traffic and I have another linksys router (wireless turned off) that the DSL goes through with the only connection being to the servers second nic.

I have already tried that option and it will not work for me. I have atalked to level 1 and 2 tech support and they tell me there is no way to do it through this modem. That is why I am trying to do it with a second internet connection.

Its a bit unclear were you are up to but put simply.
If you have one connection to nic1 on the server and this has the ports forwarded to it or is in the dmz zone then external users should be able to connect ok.

Other users should then use the internet via nic2. The problem may come with defining the default gateway for internal users. Internal users should be able to get the the internet via either router but I assume you want one clear for external use.

We need more information to be able to help fully

It is still not working. Here is my setup

Server with two nics running Windows Server 2003 being used as a Domain controller, file server, and DNS server for internal traffic

Nic 1 IP 192.168.1.250 has a Clear Wimax internet connection with static internet IP and cable running to a wireless Linksys router IP 192.168.1.1 then feeding into switches for the entire network then the switch goes to nic 1. The router is also a DHCP server for the occasional users who use wireless and don’t have a static IP.

Nic 2 IP 192.168.1.251 has a DSL internet connection with static internet IP and cable running to a Linksys router IP 192.168.1.2 then feeding directly into the server nic 2. This connection is only needed for incoming traffic to the software (IIS website) residing on the server. This router is set to do port forwarding to the server. I have also tried creating a DMZ to IP 192.168.1.251

The 2 routers are not connected

When I had DSL this all worked fine but the connection was unreliable so we were forced to switch internet providers. Clear Wimax will not allow me to forward the port through their modem/router. I will keep both connections if I get this to work. I just don’t understand why it isn’t working.

You dont say what is working and what isnt.

Change Nic2 to to 10.0.0.3 subnet 255.255.255.0 change the ip on the Linksys router to 10.0.0.2 subnet 255.255.255.0 and forward port 80 to 10.0.0.3 and see if that works. Note you cant check portfowarding from with your own network it wont work download the tool to check

Let us know after the changes what is working and what isnt. On the router you may have to change the dhcp range as well as the IP as some router keep the old range some are clever enough to work i tout

Everything on my network works except when I try to access the site from the internet it doesnt connect. The port is forwarded through the router to the server not throught he server to anything else. It is like Nic 1 is the only one in use and it will not allow traffic. It seems like the server is using the first connection that was made and not using the other.
I tried what you said with no luck.

Any other ideas?
