I played counter-strike:source and I will be playing and all of a sudden my player freezes...for like 15-30 seconds and comes back. Althought my modem stays the same ( no lights change...just the same lights that are on when it isnt lagging) I lag out. It happens a lot. I have comcast and I have a black modem that is connected to a router (Netgear). The router has a password. I tried resetting both the modem and router..nothing happens. Help appreciated
Thanks!

Hi Jay, sorry for the delay on this thread.
You may want to open up to other possibilities there, it may not necessarily be your router or modem, but the possibilities are quite extensive really. It could potentially be down to coding, compatibility, malware, PC hardware, or might not even be anything local to you.. could be your ISP or even the server hosting the game itself. Although, I have seen many network devices frizzle when there is a lot of network bandwidth. What do you mean exactly when you say your character is freezing? can you see any other movement on the screen? Are you able to [ALT]+[TAB] and interact with your desktop, or return to the game menu? Have you tried playing this in Single Player to be sure? If you go to Start > Run and type in Cmd. From the command window, type in: Code:
ping www.google.com -t |

Hey there, I think I can help - but you won't like my answer.
I've used many routers - D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, Belkin - and I've had that problems with only a couple of them. I used both a wired and wireless Belkin router and I had horrible connection problems. My connection dropped constantly, especially when I was trying to transfer files on the network. I ended up upgrading to the Linksys Gamer Lounge router and haven't had a single problem since. My only guess is that these budget routers just aren't up to the job of pumping tons of information through them. That said, I think it would be best for you to return that router if you can, and invest in a better one. Sorry If you do want to get into your router, Netgear's are usually "admin" and "password" for the login. Check this list to be sure : Default Password List
