Hello PgC,

The first port of call would be to disable any security at all to make absolutely certain no communication is being blocked.

Double check you have enabled Media sharing correctly:
- Click the arrow below the Library tab, and click Media Sharing.
- Select the Share my media to check box.
- In the list of devices below the "Share my media to" check box, select a device, and then click Allow.

If you have no devices to allow (after you have tried to make an initial connection), or you can not find the PC, make sure the following services have started, by going to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services:
- Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
- SSDP Discovery Service
- Universal Plug and Play Device Host Service

There are loads of other 3rd party Media Sharing tools out there as well, such as Orb and Zune. Most of these tools are often free, and work very well.

Sorry, i haven't had time to troubleshoot lately.

I disabled AVG, I checked to make sure my media sharing is allowed for the millionth time. And I made sure those three services have been started on my computer, and still no luck.

So, is this the free version of AVG, or the security suite? You have no other firewall installed, including Windows Firewall? AVG Free doesn't come with a firewall component.

See if you are able to ping media shared PC from another. To do this, from the PC your sharing, find out the IP address, go to Start > Run and type in cmd followed by [OK]. From the command window, type in ipconfig and see what ip address appears here, most likely starting with 192.168..

From another PC on the network, go to command prompt again, and type in ping followed by the IP address to see if you receive a reply.

Yes, I was able to ping the PC from my laptop. This thing is so infuriating. It is probably because Vista sucks.

Well, I sorta fixed it. It turns out, that the problem was Vista sucking. I installed XP as a second OS, and had no problem at all. Stupid Vista.
