Default Networking Issues with Linksys WRT-54G

I'm having constant internet / network issues with my WRT-54G ever since Time Warner came and installed a new modem at my house. I used to have a simple Motorola modem and they installed a new SBV5121
Surfboard modem with VOIP functionality and it's never been the same since.

I have dd-wrt firmware v24-sp1 (07/26/08) std-special with pretty much default configurations. The only settings I have changed were the DNS servers (I made them OpenDNS) the wireless encryption (Enabled WPA2 with AES) DDNS (with noip.com), and time sync settings (with Dlink's NTP servers).
I used to have these settings, with additional advanced features such as Overclocking, QoS, MAC Specific DHCP assignment, Port Forwarding, and other advanced features without any problems but I reset the router to erase all the advanced settings to see if that was the issue.

Ever since the new modem, my internet and network has been going down almost every half hour. I'm unable to access the router page, ping any websites or the router.

The strangest part is that when I do ping the router, I get a reply back from my own IP address. I feel as though I might have a configuration issues:

Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\AutoHotkey>ping 192.168.1.1

Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.100: Destination host unreachable.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 1, Lost = 3 (75% loss)
Firstly, it replies back from my own IP address .. ? Then it times out afteward. I'm not sure why it's doing this. I don't have any manual configurations set up on my own network card and haven't enabled anything on the router as far as I understand. Any ideas?

Further, restarting the router doesn't usually help. I'll need to restart (or even reboot with default settings) numerous times before it kicks in.

Hi,

Sounds to me like the modem is either faulty or mis-configured. Have you spoken to Time Warner about this yet?

Sounds like you have done a lot of configuration to the router. A good control might be to restore the settings to their defaults / normal settings (what they were originally)...not sure if you have done that already.

If you make a direct connection to the router via Ethernet and then use the ipconfig/all command your router should be listed as the Default Gateway. Type that into a browser (the IP of the Default Gateway - requires IP and DNS configurations to be set to Automatically Obtain).

Hopefully that will work and from there you can make the necessary configuration changes.

Sounds like you changed the firmware as well...you should change it back to the original firmware if possible. Firmware changes should only be made if you are experiencing problems with the current firmware.

Especially with custom firmwares you can never be quite sure what they do and whether or not what they do is good or bad.

What firewall /AV are you running as this can give the problem do a tracert 194.119.131.66 and see were it goes as this will show were its stopping.

Sometimes if the router is running java/javascripts AV can block it or some router dont like any browser but IE
