Default Powerline Ethernet Sockets

Hey,

I currently have a BT Home Hub downstairs with BT Vision as well, im looking to have a laptop connected to the internet which is two floors up.

I'm aware that a wireless single would be weak because of this, especially if i wanted to do online gaming.

I think i have come across a solution, they're called Powerline Adapters; my question is will the one i have linked below work with my BT Home Hub and BT Vision hardware (which is already connected through the wall sockets).

Netgear XE102 14Mbps Powerline Adapter - Ebuyer

If this Netgear adapater won't be compatible with it, could anyone possibly link one that would?

Thanks for your time.

J

You need to check that the BT Vision hardware (if that also uses Powerline Adapter technology) is using the correct 'version' or specification.

eg Most Homeplugs are 1.0 Compliant. All 1.0 compliant devices work with each other. I have used 4 different brands of homeplugs on a single network and they all work fine.

If you unplug the homeplug it will say what specification it is. In all likelihood it is 1.0.

Also, Ebuyer sell their own Homeplugs (85Mbps) which are £30 for two; £15 each. They work just as good if not better than the Netgear ones.

One other thing to note is:

200Mbps plugs only work with other 200Mbps plugs. 85Mbps plugs work with any other plug (eg 14Mbps) except for the 200Mbps ones.
