this isn't really networking but is the closest category i could find...i have a pc in my room and a HDTV, i bought a dvi - hdmi cable to connect the two as i want to be able to watch the video files stored on my pc on my HDTV and maybe i will get a wireless keyboard and mouse all in one later on.
my nvidia geforce 9800 had 2 div connectors on the back so i connected the cable into the one remaining one and fiddled about with the various settings on the nvidia display control panel but i cant seem to get rid of the discoloration of the image shown on the hdtv (i can post a pic if nessesary) also when i load up a white page such as this website it doesnt seem to be able to handle it because the screen flicks on and off!
am i missing something - i thought all i would have to do would be to attach the cable and change the resoloution but this doesnt seem to be the case :-s any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanks
David

I recently connected my TV to my PC as well. I used a VGA-DVI cable from TV to PC.
I had a blocky picture for a while. What you may need to do, assuming you have right clicked Extend My Desktop to your HDTV is to go back to Display Properties and choose Use This As My Default Monitor (on your TV) Do that and your PC monitor will say No Signal. Display will then switch to fullscreen on your HDTV. You may need to restart the PC. If this doesn't fix it, try using a VGA-VGA or DVI-VGA cable. It could be that there is some interference/incompatibility between HDMI and DVI. There might also be a setting you need to choose in the Nvidia Control Panel. Usually it is called Multiple Display or Multiple Monitors setup. I think its a default setting though so that probably isn't it. Anyway good luck. Last edited by Amtech; 11-14-2008 at 03:30 PM. |

Sorry. Here are the steps to follow:
1. Connect your TV to your PC 1.1 Turn your TV on and change the TV source to PC or equivalent. 2. Turn on the PC and logon to windows 3. Right click a blank space on Desktop and choose Properties 4. Click the Settings Tab 5. There should be two blue boxes listed, the bigger one ('1') being your PC monitor 6. If '2' is greyed out, restart your PC and it should appear. 7. Click on box 2 and tick the box for Extend My Windows Desktop onto This Monitor 8. You should see a part of the Windows Desktop appear on your HDTV 9. If you don't see it, change the video Source as it might be on another Source like HDMI but on mine its a source called PC. A restart may also help. 10. Once you see the display on both monitors, also click the 'Use this device as the primary monitor' under box 2 Your VGA/PC monitor should then switch off and you will get a full screen display on the HDTV. I hope these instructions are clear. It takes two minutes at the most to setup. Good luck. PS TV sources are things like AV/Scart/HDMI/VGA etc Last edited by Amtech; 11-14-2008 at 03:46 PM. |

Have you tried using the NVIDIA control panel?
Right click on your desktop and choose Nividia Control Panel advanced options.
