The basic drivers are installed with Windows. It uses them if it can't find the appropriate drivers for your card. Or I just remembered...you can ask it to use them without uninstalling your current drivers.

I've been busy lately...that's my excuse

To do it without uninstalling your current drivers, turn on the PC and press F5 repeatedly.

At the selection screen, use the arrow keys and Enter to select Enable VGA Mode.

That should give you a perfect video display through the HDMI connection. If it doesn't then I would suggest that you try:

a) a DVI to HDMI dongle
b) a new graphics card
c) another HDMI compatible device (eg DVD player, Xbox 360, PS3 etc)
d) another HD TV

Really you want to test the HDMI video input of the TV to see if it is at fault. For example, if a DVD player, Xbox 360 or other device shows the same symptoms through HDMI then you can be quite sure that the TV is at fault.

The only way to test what the problem is is with "known working" hardware...stuff that you know works. This would rule out the possibility of:

* Bad graphics card drivers (easy to test, as explained above)
* A dodgy graphics card
* A dodgy TV

The last two are harder and more expensive to test, unless you can borrow the hardware (graphics card, cables, even the TV) from someone.

Note that you will need the DVD player / Xbox 360 / whatever the device is AND the HDMI cable to properly test it.

am i right in saying you wanted me to press F5 to go into the bios because on my motherboard i have to press DEL to get to the bios so i did that. I couldnt see anything like enable VGA, below is a list of things which i saw which could be the equivilent:

Init Display First: PEG(current) / PCI Slot / Onboard VGA
Onboard GPU: Enabled if no ext PEG(current) / Always enable

is either of those options what you wanted me to try

No I mean press F5 (repeatedly) after restarting the PC and you will get a screen called the 'Advanced OS Choices menu'

On some PC's and laptops you may have to press F8 instead. F5 has always worked for me though.

What do you mean by "enable image"?

Did the desktop display correctly in VGA mode when you connected it to the TV's HDMI port?

Usually the nvcpl is listed under Control Panel. Start > Control Panel

Sounds like you still need to test the TV connection with another HDMI compatible device. That will help determine if the problem is with the TV or the graphics card.

what i meant by enable image is to put the video onto my hdtv because i dotn always have visual information sent to the tv, wen i want to watch something from my pc on my tv i go to nvidia control panel and change the setting from one disply to clone.

In vga mode the desktop did not display correctly on the pc monitor, it was a very low resoloution so everyhting was larger, it was useable just not pretty. and i didnt even check how the picture was on the tv becasue i hadnt enabled the tv as second monitor or clone because i couldnt get into nvida control panel.

You are right nvidia is in control panel but i have a feeling it wont be in vga mode but i will check anyway, ill let you know what i find
