I've been busy lately...that's my excuse

To do it without uninstalling your current drivers, turn on the PC and press F5 repeatedly.
At the selection screen, use the arrow keys and Enter to select Enable VGA Mode.
That should give you a perfect video display through the HDMI connection. If it doesn't then I would suggest that you try:
a) a DVI to HDMI dongle
b) a new graphics card
c) another HDMI compatible device (eg DVD player, Xbox 360, PS3 etc)
d) another HD TV
Really you want to test the HDMI video input of the TV to see if it is at fault. For example, if a DVD player, Xbox 360 or other device shows the same symptoms through HDMI then you can be quite sure that the TV is at fault.
The only way to test what the problem is is with "known working" hardware...stuff that you know works. This would rule out the possibility of:
* Bad graphics card drivers (easy to test, as explained above)
* A dodgy graphics card
* A dodgy TV
The last two are harder and more expensive to test, unless you can borrow the hardware (graphics card, cables, even the TV) from someone.
Note that you will need the DVD player / Xbox 360 / whatever the device is AND the HDMI cable to properly test it.
