This has got to be a contender for latest reply, over a year i think. Yes i am still having this problem - in my personal opinion i think because my hdtv is quite old it doesnt support resoloutions greater than 800 x 600 but im hoping that isnt the case and that some genius will see this and give me a soloution :-) so can u mark this thread as still open as i never really had any soloutions thanks

Yeah those pics look very bad. When I had a bad display it was nothing like that...it sort of looked like a desktop but wasn't as blocky or green as those pictures.
I would say its the graphics card or the TV that are at fault. In my experience a simple restart usually fixes any display errors. Also remember to set the HDTV as your primary monitor. I've probably listed the steps earlier in the thread. PS...I assume you've tried another HDMI cable? |

Well sometimes the TV's don't always properly match the resolution of the PC's the first time. In these cases you get an almost perfect picture but with bad artifacts but nothing like in your pics. In those cases, restarting the PC has fixed it, in my experience.
Is your TV one of the first generations of HDTV or something? Maybe then the TV could be the problem but I doubt it. Are you connecting it via HDMI directly or using an adapter / dongle? Mine uses a DVI dongle and I've never had any problems. I don't know of many graphics cards that output directly to HDMI. If you can, try using a DVI-HDMI adapter/dongle. They're about £7 I think from Cheap Laptops, Hard Drives, LCD Monitors, TVs and more at Ebuyer Also, have you tried using the PC through VGA or whatever your TV supports? eg the non-HDMI PC interface. If you get a bad picture there as well then it seems likely that your graphics card is at fault. |

I dont think it is a first generation hdtv but i have had it a good few years now. Although i dont know cus im looking through the tvs manual and it has the feature picture in picture (pip) and im sure thats a fairly new technology but i may be wrong. My tvs a philips 26PF5321 just so you know.
The cable used to connect has a dvi at one end and a hdmi at the other, obviously the dvi attaches to my graphics card and the hdmi to my tv. Rite im looking at my manual now for the differnet type of conenctions to my tv, theres 2x hdmi connections 2x scart and the colored pins which my xbox360 attach to. the odd one out is DVI Audio inputs which the manual says is for 'connecting a HD equiptment or computer with dvi output' which my computer does output but surely thats just the audio as the name suggests so where do i plug the video in if im gonna get a dvi to dvi cable? any ideas?
