Default Simple home networking, Between two computers

I just want to be able to do file sharing between my two computers that i have at home. They sit next to each other on the desk so cables aren't a problem.
I don't want to share the internet too- just be able to send files ie pictures, music between the two computers.
What is the simplest and easiest way to set this up?
Thanks!

If you have a firewire (1394 connection) port on each computer, you can connect (network) them this way as well.

I have mine set up like, and file transfers are really fast between the two computers. Faster than Cat 5 as well.

Set up the shared folders / drive as per madmatt2006's link.

Here's a link that explains how it works, it mentions Win ME a lot but the principle is the same for Win XP...

WeetHet - Network - Using FireWire to connect 2 PC's

not many PC have firewire as standard this is why I mentioned the network cards. You can also use a usb lead or comm ports to.

Your probably right, it just seems like I have had them forever. It will be three years with the Albatron mobo...

hello all.

This seems like the perfect place to get help with my simple home network because lately I've been doing one of these .

It's three computers, but with quite a distance between them. I don't want to run cables for cosmetic reasons. Have tried a few products so far found in my local computer stores with no success.

I'm in the learning curb (actually I think I've landed in the learning curb & they are never going to let me leave).

I've been hearing things about ccna certification training kits and thinking this may be the route to take to solve my problems once & for all, or would that be overkill?

Thanks. Will

Wondering if anyone has any experience to offer me. Thanks.
Will

Whansen02,

Welcome to PCHF! We have a talented tech staff to assist you as well as a very helpful and experienced member base. I'm certain you will find what you are looking for here!

CCNA -Cisco Certified Network Associate is a devil of a good certification to have IF you plan on going into the field of LAN/WAN support.

Expensive and overkill for education on how to configure a home network.

If your 3 computers are within your home - a simple wireless network router, wireless cards in each PC, and perhaps a network signal extender or access point to push the signal to PC's further away from the primary router - would be all that is required to share files, folders, printers between the PCs.
