I fixed a Dell PC about 3 months ago, the problem was the same. I tried several things and it worked at last. I first downloaded all the versions of the drivers I requiered in orden to have them available at the time I went to that office. Then I tried to install them with the exe given, non of the drivers worked. I assumed that it was necessary to perform a manual instalation so using the Device manager I tried to update the driver using one by one (I placed those drivers in C:\Drivers\) but didn't seemed to work, I rebooted to check if there was a bad BIOS configuration but it was OK so I exit the BIOS and continue to load Windows. When it finished loading, all drivers (LAN, audio, VGA, etc) were installed automatically, it asked me to reboot, so I did it and voalá. I never knew what happened but it worked. Hope this help.

OK dood, let start with the network card first.

With the drivers that you downloaded, if extracted to the default location, can you navigate to the folder: C:\dell\drivers\R56484\WinXP and run the setup.exe file listed here. You should receive a message along the lines that the driver has been installed successfully?

If so, go back to Device Manager, right click on your computer name at the top and Scan for new hardware changes. Cancel the USB driver install when prompted. If the network drivers do not install properly at this point, click on the Back button to take you back to the start of the wizard. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced). On the next page, click Dont search. Next page, click Have Disk, and navigate to C:\dell\drivers\R56484\WinXP. If the network card you have is compatible with this driver, it will show it in the list of devices and you can finish the wizard from here.

If you right click on the usb drivers, and go to Properties, under status, they will show why they have warnings against them, however, if the drivers have just been installed, you should restart your PC.

The networking drivers, can you describe what happened when the wizard appeared? Did you go through the process of selecting the driver from a specific location at the start of the wizard?

reset pc no change but like i said usb is now working however has exclamation mark next to two of them- in properties is says the device cannot start???

the properties of the ethernet says the driver are not installed.

when i double click on the install set up for the broadcom driver it starts the wizard then it says click next to continue then a black command style window pops up then dissapears along with the wizard? nothing else and it does not state thats its complete.

thanks for your continued help by the way
