Default Connected but stuck on 'Acquiring Network Address'

Hi,
I have a Netgear DG834GT Router. It is connected to my main PC via ethernet no problems (what im using now).
I tried using the wireless adapter that came with the router (WG111T) with my PC (Dell 2.4ghz) upstairs.
It connected and had full signal but was stuck on 'Acquiring Network Address'. I tried everything suggested by the netgear forums tech head but nothing happened.

I have tried connecting an ethernet cable to the PC instead and it has the same problem.

Any ideas?
thanks, alex

obviously the PC so (assuming your OS is XP) try:

Start

& type "sfc /scannow"

without the apostrophes but with the space.

sfc = System File Checker and will restore any files back to their original state

Hey All,

@ idioteque, my personal welcome to PCHF. Not only a great tech team but a charming, helpful and experienced user community as well. As you have already experienced.

If the sfc scan does not resolve your problem, could you please go to Start, Run, and type in cmd, then hit Enter, and at the command prompt type in IPCONFIG /all, posting back the entirety of the response? If you like for security sake you can delete the exact IP address.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

TTFN

Thanks for that Idioteque,

I am going to call in the Networking Guru because you aren't even set up with an IP address. Something is amiss.

Keep an eye out for his post.

Hey dood,

There are no wireless adaptors showing there?

You have a USB wireless adaptor WG111T? When you connect this device, does Windows make it's connection sound when you plug it in, and do you see a green light show up on the device itself?
