This is driving me round the bend.
I bought a wireless router recently (D-Link wireless N Gigabit) and set it up on my main, desktop PC. That went all tickety boo.
I then managed to connect a number of devices wirelessly with no bother at all - my work laptop, my smartphone and my girlfriend's ibook. All worked first time and every time. Then my girlfriend also acquired a desktop.
Since it has no wireless card and will sit less than two metres from the router, which has 4 LAN connections sticking out of the back of it, I thought that I would wire them up.
No dice.
Her PC declares itself connected to the network but it cannot access the internet. The wireless network is encrypted but I was not prompted for the password. Going into the Router's online setup, I can see a number of connected devices - my desktop, my mobile and an unnamed device I take to be my girlfriend's ibook but not the desktop. I know the unknown device is not the desktop because I ran ipconfig on it and the IP address did not match the one I could see in the setup. In fact, it wasn't even the same format - all the others started 192.xxx, this one starts 10.0.x.
I have unplugged and restarted the router and the modem without success. I have run the network wizard and restarted both my desktop and hers but, to no avail.
Looking through the manual reveals no entries headed "connecting a wired device using the LAN". I assume that this is because this would normally be achieved simply by connecting an ethernet cable to the back of the device, switching on and entering the password when prompted.
Any ideas?
