Default Laptop problem!!

Hi can someone help!

Having a strange problem with a laptop. Basically I want to connect it to a domain server running server 2003 with several other existing pcs and im having a problem with the dns. I managed to get the laptop on the domain but when loading network drives and printers etc.. I have to put the IP address of the server machine as appose to its name ie \\1-server.... its bugging me as several links start with the servers name rather then 10.92.34.2 etc. It otherwise just fails

Hope I make sense

Thanks
Phil

Hey Guys,

@ Phil, did I ever tell you that Phil Harris was one of my favorite stars? LOL, he was Baloo the Bear in the Jungle Book!

Anyway, I think we should have MadMonkey take a look at this, it may have something to do with the settings.

Can you please post the specs on the laptop?

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

Hi Phil,

What handles your DNS, do you have a server for it or are you running Active Directory Integrated DNS?

Alright great, so the problem will be on the client side. Let's do some tests first?

From the command prompt, do an nslookup. The initial results should give you the name and IP address of the DNS server on your domain?

If you also do an ipconfig does it show the correct IP address for your DNS server?

Can you ping your DNS server?

Are you able to resolve internet addresses ok?
