Default slow dgs-2208

I found out today that my dlink dgs-2208 gigabit 8 port switch is very slow. I did some research and found out that the switch will max out at the slowest speed machine going through this switch. Seeing as i have a laptop and a desktop that have 100 mbit connected to it it slows down the second i turn those on. My other 7 gigabit machines work fine when no 100 mbit devices are on the network.

Would anyone know any managed home switches that wont max out the switch at 100mbit?

So basically, it's a gig switch, but if you connect a 100mb base connection in, all 8 ports are reduced to 100mb instead of that one you connected?

To be honest, I wasn't even aware of this problem until you mentioned it, I assumed that all devices detect the 1000/100 port by port. I guess I'm just used to working with business routers, but there's normally a heck of a difference in price. I have some routers I can test out, I'm personally quite keen on NetGear, but I'll need to get hold of a gig Ethernet card to test with, so you may have to wait for an answer on this one.

Just out of curiosity, how on earth do you notice anything above 100mb in the first place? Since all of your other devices are 100mb? Surely you don't have a gig internet connection?

haha this is true i dont have a gig internet connection. I am aware of business switches dont have this issue. I do alot of local sharing in my house. I have 8 machines, 6 are gigabit and 2 are 100mbit. I have some wireless devices as well.

I notice this becuase when my bluray iso transfers at 8 MB/s versus 38 MB/s its quite irratating haha.

my first lead came along when i googled around for months and found benn600 having the same issue with the same switch at the following link (second poster)

Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if we did all have gig internet connections though?

OK, I have a few routers I can test. As an alternative, if I find that all the routers I test do the same thing, have you thought about upgrading the ethernet cards on the PC's?
