Unhappy Frustrating disconnection problem...

I'm not sure how to explain this, but occasionally my laptop wireless (router) simply drops my internet connection and becomes unable to detect any signal. The only way to fix this is to restart the laptop. This is a frustrating problem as I'm not sure what causes it.

It can't be the modem or the router because my mother's laptop runs on the same network and is just fine, so It must be inside my laptop.

I had this problem again a few months ago and the only fix I found was to wipe my hardrive, but it's come back again.

Any help on this subject would be highly grateful!

Thanks a lot.

Hi MoonKana,

Welcome to PCHF. We have a pretty awsome technical crew, and I feel certain that we can help you figure this out.

Let's start with some basic stuff. Can you please post your laptops stats, make model, anything extra that you have added over stock, etc.

How long after you wiped and reloaded the PC did this happen again. It could potentially be some malware that you got from the same place more than once. It may be worth looking into.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW

Hi!

Thanks for the welcome, I've taken this problem to another forum or two and they were no help at all.

Here goes.

It's an acer aspire laptop with 32bit Vista Ultimate.
Not sure what else you need but it's got nvidia geforce go 7300 and intel centrino duo on it, as well as 2gig of RAM. My router is belkin, but I know it's not a problem with that, as other laptops can survive fine without losing all signal.

It must've been a few months, two or three.

The disconnects happen fairly regularly, at least a once every hour or two, sometimes more... This is what makes it so frustrating, and the fact that theres nothing that seems to trigger it. I thought it may be norton, so I replaced that with AVG, and no good, then I thought it may be Windows Live Messenger, so I replaced that with Trillian, and still no good.

Thanks in advance!

*mini update*
I have a hunch that it may be to do with Messenger programs, because my signal hasn't gone down once since I haven't loaded up Trillian or Windows Live...

Still testing though.

Read a number of things pertaining to laptop connection problems but one in particular stood out as it touches on a number of possibilities.

Hope this thread I found is of some use...

Thanks for the link, but it's not quite the same problem.

Mine drops occasionally and simply cannot connect again, it doesn't re-connect, and the only way I can get internet access again is to restart my laptop.

I'll check out the thread listed anyway!
