Default Network camera

Hi I have bought a network camera that we are using at a school for a video presentation. Basically the axis camera is connected to the network and then in 5 other other classrooms I connect to the camera via its IP address. There is a slight delay with sound sync but its no big deal.

However, we have been forced to move the camera to a different location in the school and now when more than a couple of computers connect to the camera it pixelates!! The whole school is run using cat6 cable with gigabit switches etc however the camera only has a 100mb connection. I just wondered if because the cable run to the camera is longer then maybe this was causing it and if there was a way to maybe boost the signal??

Any ideas appreciated!
Thanks

Hi phil,

Yes it most likely is caused by the camera being further away. You can buy an Ethernet repeater which may help and hopefully alleviate this problem.

Ethernet Extender, Ethernet Extension, Ethernet Repeater, CAT5 Extender, Range Extender

Hi Dirre,

After looking into these they seem like they are a little to pricey for the kind of thing we were hoping for. They talk about extending your network for thousands of metres which is great but a little too much for what we need. I was hoping there might be something out there that would maybe give the signal a boost. The original cat5 length run was about 25feet which worked great. But now with its new location its about 60foot and this is where you get a bad connection.

Thanks for your help

Unfortunately they are expensive. I don't know if any other brands will be cheaper.

The longer the cable, the more signal loss you get. Also the amount of traffic on the network plays a big part. Getting the extender may not actually fix your problem if there is a lot of network traffic.

Depending on what switches you have you may be able to give more bandwidth to the webcam.
