It may be that the college only have certain ports open for the most popular games.

The only other thing I can suggest you try is going into Network and Sharing Center > click Manage Network Connections. Right click your local area connection > select Properties. Select the authentication tab - untick Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication.

There is no authentication tab under properties. This is what comes up.

If you don't have the tab then it's disabled already and the service isn't running.

I would try contacting the campus it support - as they may have seen this problem numerous times and know how to fix it. They probably have bandwidth restrictions on the ports for some of the older games you want to play.
