CTRL+SHIFT+F9 should work.

Another way you can try is to do the following:

Right click on Desktop > Select Personalise
Click Window Color and Appearance.
Untick Enable Transparency
Click Open classic appearance properties for more color options.
Change Color Scheme to Windows Vista Basic > Click Apply > Click OK

Please post back if this doesn't help.

No I don't think this helped. The connection is getting caught up somewhere I believe. It's strange. Today I realized that if a youtube page isn't loading at all that if I refresh it like 10 times it will eventually load at normal high speeds.

I just don't understand why I can't do anything.

Edit: Actually this might have worked. I am playing a game right now for the first time at college. Why in the world would resetting the appearance have done anything? Youtube seems to be loading faster too. Hmm. I'll let you know if it stays this way.

No problem, let us know how it goes.

If DWM was chewing all your cpu then everything would run slow. Disabling it can help.

DWM (Desktop Window Manager) is what runs the Aero look. By switching to Vista Basic you disable DWM.

Ok well the internet is still pretty slow and I can't do much. For some reason it speeds up when I play certain games online and it will spike every now and then. I still have trouble watching movies and playing certain games though.

You laptop comes bundled with heaps of unnecessary software. To try to speed it up - uninstall anything you don't absolutely need. If your not sure about any of the software please post what it is and we may be able to assist on whether it's required or not.

I really don't think that it is a processing or computer problem. I can play some games but not others. When I play certain internet games it runs extremely fast and I get like 5 ping speeds. Other games it seems like I'm running on worse than dial-up.

It has got to be some sort of blocking or port forwarding problem or firewall or campus internet problem or something.

I play on my laptop just fine at home using wireless through my router. Wireless isn't allowed here so I have to plug in to an ethernet. It has to do with the campus here because it works perfectly at home.

Edit: Whenever I type in "ipconfig" in a cmd window I get a bunch of weird stuff. Like a long list of "Tunnel Adaptor Local Area Connectors" and it says "Media Disconnected" by most of them. And then I get really weird IP addresses and such. Maybe it is because of the campus, im not sure.

You can see that my network utilization is only 0.03% of 10mbps.....

also....

I have no idea what all this means....

It is really ******* me off how I can't play starcraft, a game that is years old and I used to be able to run perfectly on dial up. Everyone keeps yelling at me in games cause it is just complete lag. How can college internet be this bad?! Yet I can play certain brand new first person shooters with a 5 ping!?
