Thumbs down Another Port Question.

Hello All,

You have probably heard this all before but I have tralled though the forum and still can't find a solution.

I recently built a PC for myself all set up for gaming and connected it all up only to find that ALL my ports are blocked.

ROUTER AND SETUP
I have a Wirless G+ Mimo Router which I wirelessly connect to via a USB adapter, I also have a squeezebox which connects to my wifi in my house and gives me music in my room and also bridges a connection via lan to my PC so effectivly I have the same connection coming into my PC twice one via wifi one via lan but both on the same network.

I have static IP's setup via the vista settings on both those connections and have foward several ports to both of these connections with no luck. MyDHCP server is enabled my connection type is PPPoA, my DNS comes automaticaly from my ISP the router firewall is disabled and Wi-Fi Protected Setup(WPS) is enabled. I also have a DMZ set up to one of my IP's as i was recommended to and Block ICMP Ping is enabled. I have NAT enabled and fullcone nat disabled i also have Upnp disabled.

On vista I have no firewall at all (I know it's risky but i'm desperate) and when I try to play games like COD4 and TF2 online I can't however Counter strike works. I have also visited open port check sites and they tell me all my ports are blocked.

I'm not a hardcore techie so try to keep it simple some people may think i should have put this is the gaming section of the forum but it's a general networking problem.

Thanks for ANY help it will be very much appreciated.
Maybe even a paypal cheque to the person that solves it because I have been fidling around with my router all year and I'm desperate to play online.

Thanks guys

Henry

Try enabling UPNP, some games use it to automatically open the ports they need.

Nick.

Can you not manually open the ports you need in your router setup using port forwarding or virtual server?

Nick.

Hello,

I currently use the virtual servers option in my router setup to foward ports but it says nothing about opening ports.

Thanks
Henry

Using virtual server you should be able to open the port you need.

I presume under the virtual server settings it gives you fields for:
  • IP Address
  • Protocol (TCP/UDP)
  • Port Range
  • Enable/Disable
Fill these in with appropriately to open the ports if you haven't already. If you have and it's not working, check that you've entered the correct IP address and selected the correct protocol (select both if you're not sure).

I'm not familiar with your router, so my suggestions may be a bit hit and miss. Appologies if what I say doesn't coincide with your router setup.

Nick.

N.B. I'd also re-enable your firewall .
