Post network backup software

hey all.

I am currently doing a cert 4 in IT and im in stage 2, so they are basicallly treating us like uni students, give a 20 minute lecture, some notes and then an assignment, then basically making us fend for ourselfs.

My problem is i have been asked to note the difference between standard (windows backup software) and a backup program for networks then recomend one etc.

I have googled etc etc and i cannot find anything helpful.

i thought if i just come in here you networking masterminds may have some idea of the different features needed for a network backup program and be able to recommend one, im not asking you to write this half a page answer for me, im just sic of going to pages that tell me nothing difinitive..

Thanks guys.

UN19UE, don't worry. We like to show how smart we are. I'm sure you'll get a lot of feedback. Some of it even useful.

You have two types of computer usage. One, the standalone computer and two, the networked computer.

The standalone can use the Windows provided backup software. This individual would be completely responsible for his/her computer and the data on it.

The networked computer is usually related to a business. The business would have an IT department that would govern the backing up of the computers on a set schedule. The best method for this is a full backup once a week (Sunday) and a nightly backup of the new data on the other nights. This procedure should be conducted by the IT personnel, not the individual user, and should be conducted over the network where the IT personnel can keep track of and be responsible for the backups.

This format would also apply to the running of AntiVirus related software as well.

Hope that helps. If you want more details, just ask. Good luck with your cert.

The features depend on whose software package you use and how much you want to spend.

Here is an example ...Network Backup

The differences are with one you're backing up one computer.
With the other, your backing up the network's computers (more than one).
