Default I Bet You Have Never Seen This One Before! Network Gone Krazy!

Oh my, please help.

A few days ago, I installed Ubuntu Linux using Wubi in Windows..... a cool way to try Ubuntu Linux while maintaining a Windows XP Pro machine. It intsalls an uninstalls nicely all within Windows - but that is not my problem - it is the networking maliase that appeared after. First of all, specs:

Woodcrest dual processor dual core
Windows XP Pro SP2
6 GB RAM
3 TB HD Space
D-Link DIR 615 Router firmware Rev 1.10
Onboard Intel LAN 2 ports
3Com NIC card
Comodo firewall
Norton anti-bot
VMWARE virtual Ethernet connections

I have used this setup for some time now with no problems at all. However, the morning after the Ubunti installation and uninstall, I have mysteriously lost the ability to use Ethernet to connect to my router AND the Internet! I CAN connect via wireless on ANY of my laptops - no problem. If I plug my Ethernet cable in, I can PING my router or chack my email ONE time only, and then - it is dead. It acts non-existent. I get an IP address through IPCONFIG /ALL (IT is assigned 192.168.0.100) but I cannot PING my D-Link router (192.168.0.1) or any web address - be it numeric or domain - name. My Ethernet on this machine is motherboard - based Intel LAN, ports 1 & 2. I have tried putting a NIC card in and it will work when I install the card, but when Windows prompts me to reboot, it stops functioning as well. If I bring up the Network connections through Control Panel, I will get the cards listed as connections before I reboot, but not after. Wireless USB will work, but I have to connect it AFTER reboot in order to make it function...it does not seem to find it until then. In checking Network Connections in Control panel, it again will not show up until after installation. I can seem to get the Network cards (onboard and NIC card) to show up if I UNINSTALL the cards through device manager (in SAFE mode) aand reboot....however, the machine will prompt me to "you have devices that will not function properly until you restart the machine. Restart now?" If I commence, no network via ETHERNET and no ability to PING the router after doing it once. All TCP/IP addresses are set to AUTOMATIC, DNS AUTOMATIC, etc. All cards seemingly are installed and functioning correctly in Device Manager as well. I have had to use wireless USB for a few days, and just discovered if I do not reboot I can access Internet and the network perfectly, so I have left my machine on for the time being....but there MUST be a solution!! I even restored an old disk image, thinking if it was a software conflict that that would ultimately resolve it, but NO - same issue upon reboot - although I did have my OLD data back, byte for byte. In effect, this system is EXACTLY the way it was a few days ago (I restored my data files after my backup restoration) and this is still happening. No firewalls are blocking access, no issues with other software blocking access....just NO ability to use wired ETHERNET (any of 3 ports) on my machine even AFTER reinstallation upon reboot - but I can BEFORE I reboot. TEST YOUR CAPABILITIES AND PLEASE HELP!!

Can you please reboot and then do ipconfig /all - save the info into a text file so you can attach it to a post later.

After you have rebooted I assume you will have no connection again. Please do the following, in Network Connections > right click one of your connections. Preferably the one with the cable connected. Select properties. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Click Properties

Select Use the following IP address - then complete fields as per below:
IP Address: 192.168.0.100
Subnet: 255.255.255.0 This should autocomplete
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Select Use the following DNS server:
Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.0.1

Click OK. You should have internet access back so you can post the above info. Please let me know if you don't.

I have the same info in IPCONFIG as my previous post upon reboot, however, ALL of my network connections are gone from control panel. I have to uninstall in Device Manager(safe mode)reboot, and they then reappear.

Strange, huh?

It therefore makes it impossible for me to try to edit my TCP/IP info to try the above test.

Any ideas?

That is strange. If it's happening even after you have restored a backup then I would guess it's hardware related.

Did you install any updates or other software just prior to this starting? If not then it could possibly be the motherboard is on it's way out.

Strange but very consistent. EVERY time I uninstall the network adapters in SAFE mode and restart the system works. When I reboot(Windows prompts me to but I don't so I can access network) I lose my Network Connections, and Mixer.exe has a GPF and closes. I spoke with the company that manufactured my system and he is wanting me to uninstall VMWARE Workstation - he suspects this is the issue. I disagree, because it never caused any issue before.

Any more thoughts?
