Question Setup a static IP

hello,

recently i have had some problems with a computer application that uses the internet. the site informed me to "forward some ports".

so i went to portforward.com and i learned how to do it and all was well...
until a couple days later i wanted to hook my pc directly to the modem since i no longer need to have multiple PCs connected to the internet.

when i plugged in the ethernet cable it said there was some problem (i dont remember what) and i had little or no connectivity. therefor i could no longer connect to the internet.

i noticed that if i plugged the ethernet back into the router everything worked fine.

i am guessing this may have somthing to do with the fact i set up a new static IP address.

i tried setting my internet protocal (TCP/IP) settings back to they way they were but still no luck..
i also tired repairing it using the auto repair under the local area connection support.

i just wanna be able to connect without a router again.

thanks
-charlie

Hi did you try setting your TCP/IP settings to auto detect instead of assigning and address. I think you will find the the address is provided by your isp when connection to there network.
