Default Direct connect with crossover cable

I currently have two computers on a network. Both are connected wirelessly. One is a desktop and one is a laptop that I take to work. Both have static IP's on the wireless network. I want to be able to sit down at my desk and plug in the ethernet wire between the desktop and the laptop and transfer files between the two computers. I think this would be much easier if I had a hard line to the router, but I can't connect either that way.

Can I set this up?
Thanks!

Default Re: Direct connect with crossover cable

When you say you can't directly connect both pc's to the router I assume you mean the router is in a different room.

Is there any reason why you don't want to transfer files wirelessly? Considering they are already networked this would be easier. Link below has detailed instructions with screenshots for setting a direct connection between 2 computers via crossover cable.

Step-by-step Guide : How to set up a direct connection between two computers using Ethernet crossover cable?

Please post back if you have any problems getting it to work.
