What web browser are you using? Also what error message are you getting when you try to view a webpage.

In your browser - click File > Make sure there no tick next to Work Offline.

Click Start > Run > Type: cmd > Click OK
at the prompt type: ping 192.168.1.3 or one of the ip's of the other pc's. Please let me know if you get request timed out

Also try to ping something like www.yahoo.com - does that go through or does it drop out.

I got it to work. On the back of the router, the main computer was plugged into a port called WAN. I plugged it into one of the ports named LAN and am able to get on the Internet. The main computer was always plugged into the WAN, so I don't know why it stopped working. Does this make sense?

Thanks.

Glad you got all sorted. Will mark as resolved.

Usually the modem has to be connected into the WAN port. It's pretty much impossible that you ever managed to connect to the internet if your PC was plugged into the WAN port, but hey I guess anythings possible.

About your first sentence in the second paragraph. Did you mean that usually the modem has to be connected to the LAN port?

Thanks to everyone for your help!

No - normally you connect the modem to the WAN port of a router. You can connect the modem to one of the LAN ports and generally still have internet access (similar to using a switch), however to utilise the full capabilities of the router you should really connect the modem to the WAN port.

Please post back if you would like more info about this.

The modem and router are together--one piece. It was supplied by the ISP. Is using the LAN a temporary fix? If the WAN is the correct way, where do you think the problem is? With the router? The ISP? Software?

The ISP says that since I am connected with the laptop, it's not their issue.

Thanks!
